Some great news for Christmas and the end of 2020. We are pleased to report that the project to refurbish the stained-glass windows in St Peter's church is now complete, and Friends of St Peter's have just paid £10,000 towards the cost of this work, in addition to the £9,000 contributed in 2017. Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our members, generous donors and supporters of our various events over the years.
The renovation included cleaning, replacing rusting ironwork, repairing the stone surrounds and removing the unsightly metal grilles. All a great improvement from both inside and out.
As usual, FOSP entered a tree in the Stoke Fleming Christmas Tree Festival. The theme this year was "the 1950s" to chime with our recent showing of the film Grease. The decorations comprised images of those events and items dating from that year, including the Coronation, the conquest of Everest, the discovery of the helix structure of DNA, hula hoops, full skirts and petticoats, and many others.
On 6 Dec we showed a sing-along version of the classic film GREASE at the Village Hall. Despite initially slow ticket sales, the Hall was full of people on the night, all joining in with the singing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. There was a prize for the Best Dressed 50’s outfit, which was deservedly won by Jenny Farmer. Hot dogs were served in the interval and the cash bar was open. At the end of the evening a profit of over £400 was recorded, so it proved another successful event.
FOSP held a fundraising Race Night last night at Stoke Lodge Hotel. Everyone enjoyed "fun and a flutter" and an excellent sausage casserole supper. Some £600 was raised for the FOSP funds. We thank generous race sponsors, who provided raffle prizes and included: The Green Dragon, Stoke Fleming Shop, Stoke Lodge Hotel and Michael Sutton's Cellar. We also thank Dartmouth Film Society for the loan of projection and sound equipment.
Our very own John McCririck lookalike introduced the evening. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the evening. More photographs can be seen under Gallery
